Improved Clinch Knot
The improved clinch knot is a strong, reliable terminal knot for monofilament and fluorocarbon lines. It is commonly used to secure hooks, swivels, and lures in a wide range of freshwater setups.

How to Tie the Improved Clinch Knot
- Pass the tag end of the line through the eye of the hook and pull through 5-7 inches of line.
- Wrap the tag end around the standing line 5 to 7 times, working away from the hook.
- Pass the tag end through the small loop near the eye of the hook. Ensure this loop is clearly visible before inserting the line.
- Then pass the tag end back through the larger loop that was just formed. This is what makes it an "improved" clinch knot.
- Moisten the knot and slowly pull the standing line while holding the tag end to tighten. The wraps should cinch neatly against the hook eye.
- Trim the tag end, leaving a small amount to prevent slipping.
Pro Tips
- Works best with monofilament and fluorocarbon.
- Not ideal for braid (can slip).
- Always moisten before tightening to reduce friction.
- If wraps overlap or look messy, retie the knot.
