Uni Knot

The uni knot is a versatile and reliable knot used for tying line to hooks, swivels, and lures, and is also the foundation of the double uni knot.

Uni knot step-by-step diagram

How to Tie the Uni Knot

  1. Pass the line through the eye of the hook and pull through several inches of tag end.
  2. Form a loop by laying the tag end back alongside the standing line.
  3. Wrap the tag end around both the standing line and through the loop 5-7 times.
  4. Pull the tag end slowly to tighten the wraps down toward the hook, forming the knot.
  5. Slide the knot down to the eye of the hook and pull the standing line to fully cinch it tight.
  6. Trim the tag end, leaving a small amount to prevent slipping.

Pro Tips

  • Extremely versatile knot for many fishing applications.
  • Works well with mono, fluorocarbon, and braid.
  • Use more wraps (6-8) for braid to prevent slipping.
  • Keep wraps neat and evenly spaced.
  • Always moisten before tightening for best strength.
